After almost 4 years of running non stop my FX5 is beginning to show it's age and I'm looking to replace it before it fails and I have no filter. Whether it's the lid that no longer seals 100% air tight, the noisy pump, the cracked tightening nuts or the broken flow control levers.
The FX5 has done a great job filtering my heavily stocked 180G [6x2x2] Malawi community tank.

I've got a Eheim 2217 on another tank and have never had an issues with it so I would like to get an Eheim canister to replace the FX5.
I'm currently looking at the Eheim 2260 but i'm not sure with the quoted lower flow rates will allow it to perform as well as the FX5?

So would people consider the 2260 to be as good a filter as the FX5 for a heavily stocked 6x2x2 tank?

Many Thanks

PS I'm in Denmark so my choice of filter are limited. Also the tank is in my living room so I don't want the hassle or noise of a sump.

I would go for the eheim 2262. Holds a ton of media and has similar flow as the fx5......and won't break after 4 years

+1 and I love my 2262

Could always make/buy a sump.

From my research it really looks like the Eheim is much better with bio filtration, so it should not be a problem. The flow rate seems to be adequate to meet most people's needs. If you are concerned about the flow rate you can go with a 2262 or just add powerheads.

From my research there are some additional benefits that I liked with the 2262. In addition to the bigger motor, you get specific quick valves and some other items that you have to pay extra for on the 2260 which could also sway you. Don't remember the details as I went with a FX5 and somewhat regret my decision.

I use two Fluval 406 on my 180. All is well.

Didn't realise the 2260 didn't come with the quick disconnects. I can't get the 2260 here in Denmark.
Would the 2080 be up to the task of replacing an FX5?
