what do you guys think would be better for a 180gal with a RTC and RTCxTSN a canister filter or a wet/dry sump?

I like wet/dry filters, others here swear by the canister filters like the big Fluval FX5 Canister Filter it really boils down to wht you want to use.

Wet dry or both but with a RTC and a RTC TSN hybrid i'm sure you know that the 180 will become the sump not the tank eventually

how do you use both a canister and a wet dry? Do you hook them together or just use both seperatley

just use both seperately. and with the size and waste both will produce i think both would be your best option

I have an XP3 canister inline with the sump, so the water runs through the sump, through the XP3 then back into the tank. The XP3 only has limited media though.

that sounds really cool... do you have any pics? Does the XP3 replace the need for a pump in the sump??

Yes, I replaced the big power hog pump the setup came with. In it's place is the XP3.

I don't have any good pics but it's setup with the pickup for the XP3 at the bottom of the sump and the return just like it normally would be in the tank. It just sits next to the sump. The tank has two overflows which flow over 12 media trays in the sump before hitting the actual water then it gets recycled back up via the XP3.
