Sorry for the poor link. I couldnt get it to imbed :irked:

Has anyone use this technique? I will be using sand substrate in my 50x21x24 tall and thought the outlet configuration on this link above looks interesting. the taps will be a must to ensure more flor goes on the surface so not to jet blast the sand about. especially as i will be using an eheim 2260

Any ideas??

im not sure but it looks like a sprayer bar on the top and the intake is at the the bottom of the tank, almost sitting on the sand? correct me if im wrong, i don't understand the language very well.

anyways, i wouldn't keep the intake so close to the bottom, ur filter is going to suck up sand inevitably, which could damage the filter or at least clog it up..

Sorry perhaps i wasnt clear.... the image only shows an outlet! its split with taps to enable a bottom "flush" as well as breaking the surface for gas exchannge. Does that make more sense?

yes and no.

i understand the concepts already, but i fail to see, ''whats what'' in the illustration. again im having a difficult time with the language.

if there's outtakes at the top and bottom of the tank, wheres the intake?

That should work, but i think the difuser its to close to the sand even if you have minimal flow on the difisuer considering that you have those valve to control flow, still its going to fly sand around, check the custom flow from pentair rainbow and you'll get more ideas.

I know the pic is annotated in german but I'm speaking English and have stated the illustration only shows the OUTLET (where the water returns to the tank from the filter). Lol. The arrows denote the direction of water flow. The diffuser is there to act like a watering can rose to spread and break up the flow of water.

I seem to be causing emmense confusion here. I shall research more and make an additional thread another day and hope not to cause such confusion. Lol.

To rudy1964 - I asked this question as the flush of the bottom of the tank could be beneficial to the filtration and eliminate dead spots. If sand will be blown about then perhaps a pea shingle would be more appropriate?

i know that the intakes are not illustrated in the pic, but where are they in ur set up?

you would have to use a very heavy sand to prevent the bottom diffuser from blowing the sand around. ur idea would be simpler if u use small pebbles or just went bare bottom.

u don't need to divert the out take of the filter to accomplish what u want. u could always use power heads to prevent dead spots. basically, buy power heads and try placing them in different locations until u find something that works.

I don't like the use of power heads. Infact I hate the look of alot of equipment in the display. Hence why I thought this was a good Idea. The intake would ideally be the opposite end of the display to encourage linaear flow and better movement of waste.

Is it me or is just the same few ppl that participate in threads on this forum?

ThNk u for replying :) it helps when I get to bounce things off ppl

other then the look what do u not like about power heads?

to be honest i think a power head would look a lot nicer, then a outtake pipe going all way down to the bottom of the tank and having a diffuser stick out..

think about it... a power head would take up much less space then ur idea, plus u can easily hide them behind decorations. a big pipe reaching to the bottom of the tank is going to look more awkward then a couple of power heads hidden around the tank. plus u can buy a 1200GPH power head for relatively cheap. u can move alot more water with the power heads then that of ur filter!

most importantly ur concept of eliminating dead spots can be achieved much easier with power heads.

sometimes u will get multiple responses, other times u wont get any at all. it all depends who is online and what information can be given by those who are online. plus this is a north American based forum, most people are sleeping right now. its 4 AM right now for me, i cant sleep so im online.

ur welcome, let me know if u have anymore questions.

4am. Ur mental lol.

I realised the time difference but most my threads have been flops lol. I spend hours reading old threads before I post so I don't duplicate any posts or ask questions that have been asked a million times :-)

the main attraction of the multiplied outlets was not only to stop the need for powerheads but also as the filter is always runningthe amount of electric consumed would not increase. The canister I'm using will provide plenty of filtration as the tank is relatively small compared to most MFK tanks.

The thought of being able to over filter the tank and produce anunder currant to more efficiently deal with the waste from the inhabitants really appealed to me. I may mock up the outlet with taps etc to see just how bad it'll look.
