canister filter outlet configuration>....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I understand what you are trying to accomplish by splitting the outlet from the 2260. It will probably work just fine since you will be adding a valve to limit the flow to the lower diffuser. What will be time consuming is determining what level to place the diffuser above your sand substrate.

Also, if you will have any rocks or plants (plastic or live), they may interfere with the flow pattern you are trying to achieve.

I made a DIY spraybar for my 2260 that runs along the entire front top of the aquarium. This allowed me to direct the flow down the front of the tank, pushing the debris toward the rear where the intake is located. It works fairly well considering I have a lot of rock piles for my fish to hide in. Here is a pic

Of course my tank is larger than yours. You will have to drill holes in your spraybar to accomplish the velocity of the water to push the debris around without moving too much sand.

Great responses!! I will do some more research. The problem is at the moment that the tank is still being made so I have nothing to practice on. Out of interest how do the 2260 perform? I have always used multiple smaller canisters like fluval 305 in the past. I have so many questions but I suppose only time will tell. Some more pics of that spray bar would be good please. Video with the tank full would be awesome, I know it's cheeky but it would be very helpful so I can see how the water is moving

Thank u :-)

Sorry, no video available, my camera isn't that good.

I am very pleased with performance of the 2260. I got my 1st one in 2005, brand new. We replaced the original 1260 pump with the 1262 pump to increase the flow.

It is on my 220G glass tank, 72"L x 24"W x 30"H. We did a DIY spraybar with 1/2" CPVC, about 70" long with 33 holes drilled along the length. The hole sizes vary from 1/8" at beginning to 3/16" at end of pipe. This allowed the flow to be more evenly distributed along the entire length of the spraybar. I angled the spraybar down, toward the front glass, but the flow does not displace the sand.

BTW, I am using 3M Colorquartz S-grade sand for my substrate. It is 0.21mm in size, so very fine. Average pool filter sand is 0.45mm to 0.55mm in size.

I just purchase a used 2260 to add to this tank. It has my 1260 pump on it, with the stock spraybar, 15-3/4"L x twelve 1/8" holes. I installed this on the short end of the tank, with the holes facing down. The flow pushed all my sand to the opposite side of the tank so I increased the holes to 5/32" in diameter. I will probably have to enlarge the holes further because it is still moving too much sand.

Do you know what pump your 2260 is using?

I will know when it arrives. I bought it onthe cheap on recomendatiob from a user another forum. I will post pics when it arrives. By the sounds of it I will have no need to upgrade the pump if it's dealing with ur monster tank. Mine is like a goldfish bowl in comparison lol

I shall be recieving the item shortly and the fabrication will startsoon after. I paid 62GBP for it second hand. Do these items go cheap in the US?

My 1st was brand new in April 2005 for $250 US without media or Quick Disconnect fittings.
My 2nd one used, from a member here, in Jan for $275 US, with media & QD's but did have to replace some worn o-rings & hose but that was expected. The pump was also a smaller unit, the 1060, so I swapped it with my 1260 pump.

I am waiting on delivery of a 3rd I bought used last week from Ebay. I'll post when I receive this filter soon. I don't think the seller sent the media as we couldn't work out the details and it also looks like the hoses need replaced & no QD's with it.

The QD's really make servicing this filter so easy. The price of them has gone up tremendously in the last 2 years though.

I shall invest insome if this one doesn't have them. The pictures were unclear but tim will tell and for 62GBP it was worth a punt

the 2260 has arrived! And i have only one thing to say........................ ITS FOOKING MASSIVE!! no one mentioned they are 26" tall and as gurthy as a water butt! lol

Don't you just love it!!!! Lots of room for whatever media you want to use.

I don't remember if you bought this used or new, which is it?

The pump can be mounted in 3 different configurations on the mounting plate if you need it to fit inside your stand. I have rotated the pump on both of my filters so the output comes out the side. I also have removed the top cover as it isn't really necessary plus it won't fit when you have rotated the pump.
