Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site and am setting up a 125 gallon (72 x 18 x 22 tall) cichlid tank. I'm probably going to be using an eheim 2260. My stand is only 19" in height (long story) so I'll need to place the filter on the floor beside the stand. Anyone see any concerns with this kind of setup in terms of flow issues into and out of the canister (normally the canister is directly below the tank so water flows through the tubes to and from the canister almost vertically)?

Thanks.

I know at least one person that has done it with an FX5... It is possible, but not ideal?

My stand was too "short" underneath to accommodate my FX5... I took off one of the pieces of wood on the bottom right side and it now rests on the bare floor underneath my stand.

WELCOME to MFK btw!

i run my fx5 on the side and have no issues, my 125 stand has 3 10 inch doors and i didnt feel like draining and moving the tank. Im gonna do it in a couple weeks but ive had no issues yet

I have my 90 gallon on the floor with a Cascade 1200 sitting next to it on the floor(same level. I shortened the hoses and I am going to hard plumb the inlet do to the properties of canisters in general.

They need a gravity fed inlet, they are designed to pump water into the aquarium, the outlet from the canister can be anywhere, above/below, it really doesn't matter. The intake on the other hand, needs to have an unrestricted flow of water to it, so this has to be above the pumps inlet, somehow. I'm going to raise my siphon loop on the canister to a few inches above the canister and hard plum into a flex hose then to my filter, maintaining the incoming water above the intake of the filter.

I get air bubbles in my canister because of the way it's set up now, even though the intake is completely submerged and no air stones close to it, the hose droops below the inlet of the filter and it looses siphon a little bit I guess.

Thanks for the response and the welcome. Why do you see this set-up as not ideal (other than aesthetic reasons)?

How long have you had the fx5 set up like this?

Thanks.

I have my cascade 1000 on the side of my 330. It actually sits a few inches up from the bottom of the tank, but the tank towers over 12" on top of that. Never had a issue with it running that way. Been doing that for well over a year.

I was wondering the same question the other day and ended up putting my Eheim 2026 to the left of my stand.

Hi there,

I have a short stand like yourself.

my cavity is 450mm, which is close to 19 inches.

I have a 2260 and a Jebo 950 on their side. the only down side is that if you don't clean your filter for a long period, silt can seep from the noodles up into the substrat.

Is there a drop in filter performance? I don't know. All I know is, my water parameters are where they should be. Getting the unit out for cleaning isna little more difficult, but IMO, it looks neater

I was warned on another forum that it shouldn't be done, but it has worked for me.

Cheers,

Chui

YMMV.
