I have three canister filters on the side of my 450. No issues other than it's messy, well looks like crap, but it's in the corner and can't be seen.
The only thing I think that's "not ideal" is the additional plumbing causing additional head pressure (drag) on the water. Making the whole system less efficient. This is so minimal it can't be calculated. I can understand head issues if the filter was in another room or something but right next to the tank? LOL no issues!
