I am looking at purchasing a RENA filstar XP3. I am just wanting to know a little about this filter and will it be big enough for my 100 gal tank with just a couple of big Cichlids(a couple of oscars or my Butti)

any body

xp3's are great filters I got mine for 99.00 at petsmart with pricematch. I run one on my 120 gallon along with two penguin 350's. xp3's are rated for that size tank but I would consider a hob filter as well. They are easy to set up and easy to clean and very dependable. I love mine I would fill both the baskets with ceramic cylinders that is what I did and ditch the bio chem carbon it comes with.

I am thinking about going with 2 AC 110 which will be rated at close to 1000gph. The only reason I am wanting a canister is my tank will set closer to the wall.

Too bad I dont live close to you I have a 6 month old xp3 I want to get rid of. :( I have now 3 canister filters and im switching to a wet dry so its time for some to go.

Ship those bad boys!

I'd add atleast one emperor 400 or Aquaclear 110.
Canisters are great at bio filtration, not so much at mechanical.
With larger fish you'll need a lot of both.

 If you haven't fully made up your mind yet, you could try 2 XP3's & dedicate one solely to mech. The less expensive route would be 1 XP3 & 1 A/C 110. Good luck. "T"
