Canister filtering a sump

going back to post # 7those types of strainers do work but they can be loud, some one on here once put a piece of air line tubing through a small drilled hole in the strainer and that made them much more quite.

as far as sump design i recommend instead of the water going directly into a filter pad then biomed
i would set it up so it flows into a chamber of filter socks then overflows into the biomedia

my setup is like the way you depicted but theres a lot of debris that getts around those pads
i would look at how LOWcel did his 300 gal filtration
 
Thanks for even more great info, but I'm not sure I follow you on the "airline tubing in the strainer" part.

Here's another quick question for y'all.....
In a drip tray, how far do you guys usually space between the holes?? I don't think I'll have much luck finding plastic peg boards in Korea, so I will be drilling my own.

as far as drilling the drip try i think mine is one '' apart with holes about 1/8''
but if you search i remmeber a thread about the ideal size if i find it ill post up the info
