Hi guy's just got this filter through and its massive! Much bigger than first anticipated, therefore I believe this should do a small Hystrix for a while unless anyone disagree's?

Anyway I'm not sure what to put in the four baskets after a brief talk with Toby I think I am leaning towards this; it came with activated carbon which I will be removing as I don't feel its useful and will replace with bio balls, the other two trays came with ceramic rings and bio balls, I am going to add a few more bio balls to the tray to ensure it is full with them, the final tray has mechanical filtration in the shape of a few sponges so I am going to leave these in!

How does everyone feel that is? Anything that I could do better?

Cheers!

Sounds fine to me but I always finish off with a thin layer of polymer wool (filter floss) to polish up the water

Thats a sun sun can filter. those are GREAT!!! VERY VERY VERY silent, and a ton of room for bio! i have 2 of them. rate at 530gph, and you can get them on ebay for about 110bucks shipped to your door!! they are great cans. i believe sun sun also builds marineland canister filters... just a lil info for ya there

I would take the carbon out, and save it for when your water loses clarity or you have to remove medication.

1. Gets rid of water smell.
2. If you have driftwood it breaks down alot of the toxins, and keeps water nice and clear.
3. removes chemicals from the water, such as medicine.

do not worry about the carbon, take it out. i have driftwood in my tank with rays and have no problems... i have crystal clear water and no smells.... carbon is not gonna hurt your rays or anything, but if you forget to take it out once it has expired, it will start putting ammonia back in the tank i believe....correct me if im wrong, but pretty sure i read that somewhere on here lol

I have the sunsun 530 with UV. I love it all in one. I keep discus and rays. I prefer filter floss, bio balls, ceramic rings, and peat moss.
