I'm still working on filtration ideas for my next set up before I commit to anything. Has anyone ever heard of someone taking a canister filter and finding a way to run the hoses to multiple (two or three) tanks? Just curious.

I don't understand why you would want a centralized filter? If one of your tank gets a disease then the rest of them will have it too.

It could be done using water bridges, but the cleanliness of the tanks would suffer IMO.

Central systems are great. If you take the appropriate measures, risk of getting an outbreak is low.

you could probably just DIY the hoses to go to both tanks. Of course, your GPH is greatly diminished but that wouldn't matter too much depending on the size of the tanks and the capacity of the canister.

I probably wouldn't do it since the main thing I want is a way to have one heater for multiple tanks. Just wondered if anyone had ever tried it. I'd probably just use sponge filters before I'd use a canister, but again you would still need a heater for each tank.

lol....i think it would just be easier to have a heater for each tank? if the heater failed all tanks would suffer. deff scratch this idea

I'm going to have nine tanks when I set these up. I really hate to have 10 heaters (two for the 125), plus all the lights and the filters. There are a lot of people out there who use one filtration and one heat source for multiple tanks. I'd just rather not drill the tanks if I don't have to.

You should think about a central system.

:iagree:

I haven't had a disease outbreak in 5 years. a sick fish here or there but I quicky qt'd them and none of the other fish in the tank had this issue.

with the new pond build out I'm essentially hooking it to my internal tanks for w/c purposes. I don't think i'll run into any issues.
