Canister help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If the o rings on the canisters have a lot of gunk built up on them that can cause a leak too. Try running a q tip across the o rings and cleaning them really well, then putting a bit of grease on them to help seal. Hopefully that will help. If it does, I'd recommend ordering new o rings so you can install them the next time you take them apart for cleaning.

I actually figured this was the issue too, but I don't know what I'm looking for as it looks like there AREN'T any lol, but maaaan it's got some vac pressure when I try to take it back apart!

UGHHHH. Sickening to have so many canisters that I know nothing about. Just tried the Eheim... Couldn't get it to take a DROP of water in. Guess the JD's and the Redbellies are filterless tonight. Worked on this all afternoon.

still cant prime the eheim? my father had an issue like this with an old fluval of his, wouldnt prime with th priming lever for nothing. we ended up having to manually fill th hoses with a jug and funnel. after that it was ok.

Have you tried switching the impellars in the marineland heads. Put the impellar from the one that leaks into the head that does not pump and see if it will start working.

Canister filters are easy to use once you learn how. Here is a video on the Marineland C series canister filters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIbnRKejIcw
I did watch that before I posted.. unfortunately there aren't any "if you're experiencing this problem, try this.." videos out there lol.

Don't know what model eheim you have, but here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RU_QBM9Dqg
Not that one :P Eheim 2234. Still nice to see relevant material though. I watched it all the way through anyways, and sought out his video of it being set back up.

I hadn't thought of that. I shall try that today too :). Also going to look into replacement Oring prices as I'm sure a new one wouldn't hurt anyways EDIT: $18 for gasket kit; seems worth trying.

Eheim 2234. Supposed to be able to rock the handle forward to prime it. I tried that. Something either broke or came loose in one side of the handle, now that doesn't work. I thought about manually filling the hoses, and thought I'd be overtaken by the air in the lines. Maybe I'll try that after I hit the dollar store for a funnel.

A few days ago I had a thread in Setup & Filtration asking for an equipment ID. This equipment is the result of that purchase lol. In that thread, you'll see a very very dirty 80 gallon tank. That tank had the Eheim AND a C-360 on it (500+ GPH) for filtration and was STILL that dirty. When I took apart the C-360 to clean the media, the sponges were submerged in a cake of fish filth. The media in the Eheim was ok, but the bottom of that canister was also full of waste.

This has been a very time consuming process. My wicked deal I got has already turned into "I wish I had saved the time and just paid full price".

In any case though, I REALLY appreciate the help guys!! If there's anything else you can suggest, please feel free!
