the fx5 is as tall as a cascade 1500, try it see if it works.

i don't know if it's me or not and it's 6'' off the ground.... my fx5 works, my cascade 1500 works, my fluval 405 works all on a 125gal tank that's on the ground. Maybe I'm different, but it works. As long as the intake and the outlet and the canister is filled with water your good.

I agree, an XP3 has a hard time running without the gravity assist.

looks like your loosing 2 to 1 plus API recomemds the canister be place a minimum 24" below the waterline.

yeh i didnt buy the fx5 yet, once i get some more replys ill decide if im going to buy it or not, would 3 aquaclears 110's be good filtrations for the 125 if the fx5 idea falls through.

its going to be a foot long silver aro, a 8-9inch clown knife, and a tiger shovelnose, when these outgrow the tank there going into an indoor pond.

You are right on with the AC110s though, I would think 3 would be fine whatever the stock may be.
