I have a 55g with 1 6 inch firemouth, 1 4inch convict, 1 4inch jewel, and 4 inch blue acara.......Im gonna be upgrading my filtration but im trying to figure out should i go canister or hob?? what would you guys reccommend?
I like canisters but i find them to be somewhat expensive....

Some will disagree but I would as a single AC110 would be perfect for that tank.

Both. canisters are good for Bio, and HOB's are good for mech. But i use a Fluval 405 and a cascade 300 for my 55gal.

What are you using right now?

Yes expensive however all you see are the hoses. If you don't mind the look HOBs are fine. I'm a can man personally.

I currently have an ac70.....what filter will be good to help the ac70

I had an empreror 400 on my 55. I decided to try out a canister, so I invested in an xp3 and by far it made a huge difference. I will never go back to a HOB.

well what rena xp should i get?

I would go with the x3 ,because it is better to have extra than not enough. Also if you see another fish you want you have the filter to handle it.
I have two x3's,one fuv 305 and an fx5 and and ac 110.
The ac . and the 305 are on my 65 gal.which has one oscar in it he's about 11 inches long..
