Hi all,

I am looking to get a 90 gallon setup off of Craigslist. It will be my first "big" tank for me, (I know to some people on her it's like a little Betta Bowl.) But anyways, I've heard mostly that sump filters are much easier for a beginner. On Craigslist there are plenty of great deals, but almost none for a drilled overflow tank. Will I be better off just using some sort of canister filter, or should I wait for a drilled tank.
Thanks

p.s. the tank will probably have African Cichlids

You can do a DIY wet/dry overflow system using storage containers. I've wanted to do this but not sure how to go about it yet.

I'd do canister or hob. Sumps are great but need to be setup properly to not have problems and I'm not a huge fan of hang on overflows.

HOBs are the easiest but most visible. Canisters are great for your size setup too and can blend with the tank easier but are more expensive.

aqua clear hobs are quiet unless you keep the water low intentionally to increase surface agitation which is recommended for heavy stocking.
I prefer mixed filters hobs give you high gph but lack it the filtration over a can the best of both worlds is my motto.

The hob will be best for mechanical and water surface movement. The canister will work best for benificial bacteria. I would go with a aqueon 55/75 hob and a aquatop 400 or 500. Its your choice on brands
