In a 75gal with 1 red devil, what would be the better filter. Right now i have 2 350 hang on backs and im looking to use only 1 canister and ditch the HOBs. so im looking at a few in the $170 range.
The FilStar XP3
Eheim Classic 2217
Marineland Multistage Canister 360
These or whats at Dr Foster and smith. Now the Marineland Multistage Canister is on sale.
Thanks for any help if you could give me your experience on these ans some pros and cons of them.

I would go for the 2217 if I was only to get one of those filters for that size tank. On a 55 I run a 2213 and an xp3 with only one fish in the tank. I'm a big believer in overfiltration though.

I have both marinland 360 and ehiem 2217 I have them one my 125 with 7 fish in them Bichirs. they do a great job Eheim is the best no problems I just don,t like the hose on the Marineland hard to get on and the locking clamps act strange when closing some time you have to work with them. also they use more wattage.35 compared to ehiems 17w now I am going to get 1 filter for my tank 2250 ehiem bigger filter less wattage 28w and does the work of both of them I have a 2260 on my 180 all by itself. with 6 fish 14 to 20 inches water is clear like air.

I use xp3 on all my tanks. They are quite effective if you clean them every month. I do have a problem with one of them. It produces a humming noise coming from the motor. The motor is sealed so I can't see what's wrong with it. This was the 1st xp3 I bought, it's about 7 years old. Anyone out there with similar problems regarding the humming noise?

I vote 2217 nice bio ability and decent flow. Cheaper than the rena as well I believe.

I'm running a pair of 2217s on a 180gal and never had any problems with either of them and the water's always crystal clear. Working on eheim's calculations on the box for the 2217 it's well overfiltered, not got the numbers infront of me but wouldn't the 2215 be better for a 75gal? It's not like you're running the risk of being overstocked!

I wouldn't run a 2215 (I own 2 ) alone on anything bigger than a 55. It has the bio working for it but the reality is most people here (Actually everybody this being MFK) Would want more turnover for mechanical reasons. A 2215 would not quite turn over his tank 2 times an hour.... Dont get me wrong I love mine and its on a 90 (With an ac110 and a fluval 405 and top fin 60 etc etc) But even the 2215 on my 55 community has a backup AC110 but as mentioned above I tend to lean towards overfiltration maybe its just me. Hope that makes sense I had a hell of a training session last night and I had to take some muscle relaxants today.

Yeah i know what you mean, eheim recon the 2217 is good for tanks upto 600ltrs which is about where the level's sitting in my 180gal, but i'd never want to try and leave it on just one of them!

ok thanks, how about the
Penn Plax Cascade 1500?
