Here's the setup. 90 gallon one 12" rtc. Fluval 406 and 2 sponge filters. Some driftwood. Koralia evolution 425 gph. I feed every other day. I do water changes the day after I feed. At least 25%, up to 50%. Ammonia and nitrite are always 0. Nitrate is 20 on a good day. I got two packs of fluval lab series nitrate remover. I only use it for 24 hours then recharge. Anything I can do to lower the nitrates? It's a temporary setup. I have alrdy begun to collect supplies for my plywood tank. Construction will start in 2 weeks.

how often do you rinse the media in your fluval?

Check out the thread about using plants to "filter" the aquarium. Common house plants from a hardware store such as pothos, spathyphyllum, etc.... can be placed into an empty hob filter to absorb nitrates or let the roots grow directly in the tank for a cool natural looking effect. They will also absorb nutrients that would otherwise feed algae such as phosphates.
