So I'm having a hard time finding a Canopy for my 150g, I've had an offer from a guy to build one for $350, I can however find glass tops for $55.

My question is, would glass tops be enough to hold a cat on top of it? They're kittens right now around 3lb but would imagine around the 10lb mark when adults.

I know a Canopy could hold the weight no problem, but $350 is a lot to drop on a canopy. I'll still search for something under $200 but in the meantime my two kittens are getting more and more interested in the tank and I know it's a matter of time before they decide to get on top of it.

Thoughts?

Excellent, thanks mate.

Looks wise I do prefer the canopy to glass tops, but not by much as I like glass tops myself. I just wasn't sure if it would be able to hold the weight.

depends on the glass thickness,

unless its extremely thin probably

The glass tops are just the standard All Glass Versa Tops

i think its a couple small ones. i would say it would hold the cat. but if it jumps on it i dont know.

Canopies look great but are a pain in the @$$ when it comes to tank maintenance if not designed properly.

The glass tops would be more then strong enough to hold a cat.

Excellent, thanks all.

Also glass tops are easy to find and don't kill the ole bank account. Just wanted to double check on the weight issue as I was unsure.

so are you protecting the fish from the cat's or the cats from the fish?? lol
