Can't believe I did this

that sucks, there is nothing special about ruby red oscars. I love my severums and mine hold there ground well, even the smaller ones. If we should all learn something from this is never give into peer pressure. I wonder how much he going to sell your ebjd for now.

I’ve seen some impressive Ruby Red Oscars and I’ve seen some Red Oscars mislabeled as Ruby Reds… the ‘quality’ of the Oscars makes a huge difference… I’ve also seen some stunning adult Blue Dempseys and I’ve seen some nasty looking ones… I don’t think any of us can offer a rational opinion on the trade without seeing the fish involved, except that if both parties were happy it was a good trade…

But adding a 4” Severum to the tank with an established 6” Oscar is taking some risk. It is typically suggested when adding a fish to a tank you should rearrange the environment to break up established territories, etc. I’ve found this to be limitedly affective as Cichlids are rather intelligent animals and can understand that just because I moved a log 2’ to the left he isn’t in a “new tank”. Although I have found replacing décor with new items works rather well.

Also, as mentioned, we can never assume that this Cichlid will get along with that Cichlid. We enjoy our Cichlids so much because they are intelligent… well it’s that same intelligence that makes them territorial and aggressive.

Sorry for your loss… and I hope to see pics of those Ruby Reds ;)

My LFS doesn't even take Oscars as trade ins, and they give Oscars away for free.......LoL.....sorry about your loss.
