check your tap water. Both fresh from the tap and after sitting for 24 hours.
Unless your chlorine is as high as a swimming pool, it won't cause instant death in a fish.

It would smell like chlorine right? it doesn't at all. Also if it was strong enough to kill a fish wouldn't it harm humans drinking it?

I recommend buying Prime. It doesn't have an effect on pH, and it only takes a little bit to treat a lot of water.

Sounds to me like it could be a few things. pH swing is probably the culprit. Are you able to set your water for water changes in a tub (or in buckets) for 24 hours with a bubbler and Prime? That will help stabilize the pH and help the CO2 "gas off."

No. Fish die from chlorine poisoning, where the chlorine competes with the oxygen in the gills. I don't know if this is really something we can consider since these fish also breathe air, and often live in oxygen-poor waters.

I went and got my water tested at my lfs today and the lady told me everything was fine, just a little high alkalinity. I bought some prime while i was there and i guess ill just continue with wc and prime to see if i can save the rest of my fish. I have another thread on how my bowfin cant keep his balance and is almost flipping over there is also a video there. ill post a link to it in case anyone has any idea whats going on.

Did she give yo any actual numbers and what tests she did?

Yeah for the alkalinity since it was a little higher. She told me to just do wc and to use the prime i had already planned on buying. I cant remember the number she said but she showed me the test after she did it. Ive just decided to to 25% wc each night with the prime and stress zyme to keep the water clean and hope my bowfin gets back to normal.
