Most the 3M Color Quartz I've got is dark brown, real pretty color and it doesn't look 'unnatural'.

but isn't that just one color? for me, at least, natural color is like pfs where there are many different colors mixed without it looking to man made. don't get me wrong the dark brown is nice. i had 100lbs of 3m buff mixed with less than half a quart of dark brown 3m to give it a natural look, but to it still gave it an unnatural look.

Different sources of pool filter and other non-aquarium sand are different. Some need minimal cleaning, others will effectively never be cleaned.

I like the black and white mix I use and many have commented on its surprisingly natural look. Darker substrates help intensify the colors of your fish. Lighter colors (like white, beige, and off-white) will whiten them and wash out their colors.

I have never had a problem with my pool filter sand being cloudy. I cleaned it well to begin with and haven't seen any problems for that last five months. FYI, I bought Leslie's brand filter sand.

same brand i was cleaning. would you happen to be able to have pics of tank with pfs after a cleaning? if not would you be willing too?

No problem. I will try and snap a few pick the next time I clean the tanks. Should be tomorrow-ish.
