Hey everyone, I'm looking for some suggestions on a stocking list for my 55 tall. I feel as though every-time I find a species I would like to keep, I find out they're too big, too expensive, too rare, etc. lol. I really like Uaru amphiacanthoides and datnoids. Also like frontosas, but a Uaru-specific tank is my favorite stocking idea. (Unfortunately they all grow too big) Based on that, if anyone can suggest me a fish species/stocking list that I could keep, I would appreciate it. Barring a single predatory cichlid or an african cichlid tank.
Thank you.

Red congo puffers are awesome they are bright red agressive and predatory and get to about 6 inches.

Black ghost knife fish
Only usually get 10 inches in captivity enjoy planted aquariums

Silver datnoids only get 12 inches and would be fine in a 55 gallon

Short body red tail catfish 12 nches max awesome fish to keep.

Payara are very predatory and get 12 inches in captivity

Red bellied pirhana max size 12 inches insanely agredsive and will eat anything that comes into the tanj thats not a pirhana

What are the dimensions of a 55 tall? I would think the footprint may severely limit the choices. A standard 55 would open up options.

Lol please stop giving people advices, a short body RTC full grown looks like a gigantic football on crack. And piranhas are not insanely aggressive. No payara should be kept in a 55g unless it’s a grow out.

Ditto. 55 is just not a monster tank.

Don't put 12" fish in a 55. You'll work like a maniac to keep them alive and healthy.

6" to 7" is a much better choice for you and the fish, unless you like crashing or 3 water changes a week.

There's something they teach you in flying and it applies to fishkeeping:
It is totally foolish to fly too close to your performance envelope, unless in emergency.
It's just as foolish to load your tank with too big/many fish.

In either case there is a margin of uncertainty you don't want to infringe on as a matter of prudence.

My apologies, it is not a tall, it is a standard. Not sure why I was under the impression it was a tall, lol.

Yes, I understand that. Ideally, I would like to have a species specific tank within that size of fish or something with a cool unique dynamic. Thank you for your response

Apistogrammas would make for an interesting tank. Lot of different options to choose from.

This is not good advice.

OP are you still looking for cichlids? duanes duanes or Gourami Swami Gourami Swami would know more about smaller species that are ideal for a tank this size.
