cant get rid of cloudy water

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've done all of the following as suggested when I had my tank, and nothing worked.

I spoke with the person who I got the tank and he got rid of it for the same reason. I even tried modding it to get things better, and still no luck.

I've been told by a lot of people that the under trickle filters don't do well with freshwater tanks. That ammonia is always an issue once it fully cycled.

A fishless cycle usually takes 4-6 weeks if you're doing it right (adfing ammonia source, testing WP, doing WC daily). so the first thing you need to do is cycle your tank.
Do Not waste money in "bacteria in a bottle". Its a load of crap. Bacteria needs food and oxygen to survive. Neither of these things are availible in a sealed bottle.

Cloudy water can be caused by a number of things. Assuming its due to bacteria bloom in your case, cycling the tank should clear up the problem. If not, then you will need to find the cause in order to properly treat it.

let it finishing cycling...my 70 did that too....one day it will clear up a bit then the next....crystal clear...GL

your tank is spanking new, you dont need a UV filter, diatom filter, and a half dozen AC110's just yet. Let it cycle before you decide to go buying a bunch of gear. There isnt a filter, UV gizmo or bottle of snake oil out there that will replace the cycling of your tank. If your doing a fishless cycle, make sure you are feeding the BB a consistant supply of ammonia, get a test kit and wait for the NH4/NO2 to read zero, and your good to go. Some of the "bacteria in a bottle" products seem to be legit, such as seachem's stability and may help speed up the process. If you still have a problem at that point then start looking at upping your filtration. Unless your made of cash and just want to put all this stuff on/in your system, either way you still have to wait for your cycle to take place.

I agree. ^^

Just remember that a larger tank will take longer than what you may think.

I have heard that ceramic rings are better for trickle filters than BioBalls. Don't know if it's true, but I have had no luck with Bio Balls ever. I have however had great results with lava rock and feather rock.

thanks everyone i got a lot of good info.... i will let everyone know my results
