Stallone did 6 days a week at the gym when training for the Rocky movies.
I don't mean to be Captain Derailer here but Stallone takes all kinds of vitamins and other substances every day plus he has trainers and coaches.

Good words, people. You're probably right in that I stop too soon. I already stay sore for days. I always do as many pushups as I can until my muscles are shuddering so badly the floor shakes. And then I go for one more but usually my body just freezes halfway and no matter how much I sweat, strain or force it, I just fall back down. I'm 29 and I've seen guys of all ages who can do more pushups than me and it makes me angry. I think I'll just start doing it every single day as often as I can and see if my body can make the change. I have done plenty of superhuman work as a spray finisher and can carry several hundred pounds and walk it across a room. I can curl 50-60 pounds for five reps both arms. I can carry my 75 gallon tank by myself. It's just these darn pushups!

48hrs for your muscles to recover. good 8hrs sleep every night and diet

Just do the starting strength program. you'll turn into a beast in no time :headbang2

bench press and working on your triceps will help your pushup output

if you workout weekly, you should get to a point where you don't get bad sore muscles anymore. just alternate pecs/triceps one day, biceps/abs/legs another day

i don't lift weights anymore, but when i first started at 14, i bench pressed everyday. (4-5 days a week) i was 5'6", weighed about 120 lbs, maxed out at about 55 lbs on the bench. by the time I was out of highschool I weighed about 155 lbs, and maxed out at 295 on the bench. when i first tested myself on diamond pushups, i did 77. the second time I did 124 diamonds. never tried again after that but i'm confident I would've done at least 200. i did 22 pull ups, only tried that once and i used to do bar dips after every pec work out. I'd do like a set of 60, then 40, then 30

i never took any suppliments, never liked doing that but that's just me

it because you isolate body parts on each workout. you don't workout your chest 6 times a week, that is just counterproductive. Just an FYI for those who may be confused.

Of course. Wouldn't want to over-stress your muscles.

1.9x body weight, thats extremely impressive.

it's been over 5 years since i worked out on the regular, since then, i've touched a bench probably literally 3 times. I still hit 250 after a quick warmup and stretch.

but it's not as impressive anymore because that's only 0.2% my body weight now

Just a guess, but you probably don't weigh very much. I remember when I was a ritalin kid and only weighed 82 pounds and I could do like 60 pushups without trying. I'm 180 pounds now at 5' 9" and starting to wonder if, even though a lot of that weight is muscle, losing another ten or twenty pounds would increase my capacity for pushups. But then I see bumpy chunky meat people who can do the pushups even though they are heavy, so that tells me something is up. Could it just be genetic?
