thanx LISA H. thats exactly what i started to figure was the next step. so how many times did u have to repeat this process till it cleard up and stayed clear?? p.s what will the phos. remover do?? and how much so i use??

I had to do the sand bucket thing every other week until I got the phosphate remover. Then it was closer to 6 weeks before it would get a dirty look again. It never got as bad as the first few times (before the phosphate remover) I still vac off and wash the very top layer every 2nd to 3rd month to give it the pure white look. I have colourquartz 3m T-grade sand.

Algae thrives on phosphate. I use the Fluval phosphate remover in my AC 110's. Just follow the directions...I think each bag does about 27 gallons.

I also have a 55 gallon that got brown algae for about 5 months and then it stopped with out using phosphate remover. I just wanted a little more help on my 100 gallon because brown algae looks really bad on pure white sand.

i use a pyton with a pot or bucket under it to catch the sand . and when i clean the thanks i realy stir and digg it up. the pot/ bucket will catch the sand and you can add it back to the tank when done

Thanks for the idea,:D I'm getting ready to start adding caribsea aragonite sand in with my gravel to slowly change it and was wondering how I was going to clean without losing a lot of sand.
