Hello

I know there is many post on this topic but I can't seem to be able to get an ID on this guy. Based on my research I'm heavily leaning tword a capapretum over a true filamentosum. But then I look at some post that make me believe it's actually a paraiba. The head shape looks like a capa and spots look like a Fila but I'm looking for some input from others who are more experienced. I purchased it as a pairaba for $120 knowing that there was a high likelihood of it being mis-ID and at the price I wasn't to concerned since I would like to own both species at some point and am prepared to house either.

I purchased in January at roughly 4" and I would say it's close to 6" now, deffaintly not a fast grower in terms of other some monsters which make me think it's a capa as well. It refuses to eat anything but pellets and is pretty skittish.

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. 20220311_210935.jpg

Awesome, thanks for the input, this makes me a little more motivated to finish my 3500 gallon indoor pool a little quicker now for when it outgrows the 300 in my living room.

Fila. You can check out the collection of links in my post #63 here for more: https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...hyplatystoma-filamentosum.688117/post-8417489

Thank you for the extensive post on the other thread. I plan on spending some serious time going through it all and learning a few things.

I think yours look like what we currently know as "Peru piraiba" sold by vendors, which I believe to be B. filamentosum.

But some disagree on the basis that fish sold as "Peru piraiba" grows either far smaller, that is, capapretum-like with a 4ft max in the wild it seems, or far slower than fila from other places. My observations confirm that firsthand as well.

IDK why Peru piraiba/fila size and/or growth differ so much from say Suriname fila. Look at some of the latest threads in my compilation for more. Our 2 "Peru piraiba" are 5 yo and 2.5ft and haven't grown much at all in the last years. Our Suriname piraiba is 7 yo and 5ft and keeps growing.
