Cape town culture: Bo-Kaap

Hey guys,

Recently I took part in a visit to the well known Bo-Kaap district of Cape Town, formerly a multicultural township it is now a vibrant community with one of the most diverse religious populations in the country. It is now known for its vividly coloured houses and apartheid history with people from all walks of life. Of course I took a good few photos








On this particular day there were community gatherings and school sport going on, it was bustling and you really get a feel of how this place is known for its rich history.

This was barely a glimpse, the real deal is even more colourful!

We also went around some other parts of town, so I have a few more snaps!

A popular plant around here, Euphorbia milii. Even I have some at home.

Lovely ostrich egg lamps at a market, all handmade.

A typical market square, popular with tourists!

Unfortunately a very common sight here where poverty is rife

The official museum of District six, notorious for the forced eviction of a community under apartheid for more white housing.

Do they breed ostriches for the eggs or do they just grab them from nests in the wild? Either way it’s very cool.

There are ostriches on my way to schols, they are widely kept. Especially in the more barren areas. Ostrich mince is delicious.

Even here they have ostrich farms, easy to raise in warm enviorments , but at the same time rather dense

I think a person about half a mile away from us had an ostrich.
