I'm interested in housing a few rays in a 280 temporarily with my 6 baby aquatic turtles.

I'll have the turtles and rays split up with a divider, but i'm concerned if my inquisitive turtles jump over the divider.

I was planning on putting a "cap" on the rays tails something similar to the water vile you put on the end of a rose. Is this considered cruel? and would it harm the ray in anyway?

I'm hoping to keep the rays in half of the 280 and capped for about 4 months, since my display tank is being plumbed and needs to be cycled.

Also my lfs has:
6 inch Motoro: $70 USD
4 inch Flower: $80 USD
3 inch Castexi: $65 USD

The motoro pricing is about usual for Canada, but I don't see the Flower too often and never heard of the Castexi up until recently. Are the prices reasonable?

Those prices are not real. Not if the naming is accurate. Unless this store is in the business of loosing money.

Capping tails is dangerous for YOU. Make the divider strong enough in the first place. What kind of turtles are they? the shells should protect them for the most part.

4 FRT and 2 Mata Mata; the Frt are soft shells.

I guess the capping is a no go then?

I'm getting livestock at cost from my lfs (bought a lot of equipment for a SW setup recently).

How much do these rays typically sell for?

i would be more worried about the turtles hurting the rays, rays wont sting unless the turtles are biting them...

Even if you're getting them at cost, that is still a little unrealistic for Flower rays. If you can really get flowers (real ones :D) for that price ...I'd grab as many as I could if I were you.

Where in Canada?

Do juvie flower rays typically have a slghtly more distorted pattern? I'll post a photo midweek to confirm.

How much do flowers typically sell for? What about the castexi.

Depending on sizes, if the turtles do mix with your rays the most likely scenario will be that your rays will mount your turtles and drown them IMO. Water quality will also be a big issue since turtles are pretty dirty. If you can wait I would...

I'd say no go with the capping of the tails.

Around me freshly imported shroederi cost between $300-$350USD.
