it was just something that the wholesaler told me. to be honest i wouldnt know. like everyone else gotta see it to believe it right. so since you are closest the the country that they ship it out from im sure you know probably alot more then i do. :D

some asian countries catch datnoid for food from most people tell me. like the siamese tigers indos might be close to extinction in the wild i presume. so im sure they found out a way by now to breed it. if i was from the wild still i wouldnt have come in as often as what it does now.

And others know a lot more than me. I just tried to find captive bred in Thailand because there were so many indos at local markets.
They aren't captive bred, and judging by the numbers that have been available this year ITs are not in danger of being extinct any time soon.
The Thai ST was always doomed. It's main area was in a very big lake called Bungborapetch. It was over fished, the big ones ended up on plates, the babies ended up in fish tanks. They were selling big ones for about $800 10 years ago, so fishermen were very keen to catch them, the super rich very keen to eat them.

If you read what i wrote you'll see at a SCIENTIFIC LEVEL there has been limited success with Thai ST. If you watch the incredible Hulk you'll understand the scientific level bit. LOL

This link tell you all about the plight of ST in Thailand.

Good effort CC... ... And thanks for feedback..
I kinda wish that All the recent baby tigers were captive bred, but there just has not been any conclusive evidence..... Yet.

I've wondered that TBH.
They way the Sumatran poster explained its middle men that buy them in smaller numbers and store them to sell them on in bigger numbers.

Hmm thats very odd since I see them by the hundreds in the LFS and they're all around the same size. And I also question their survival rate being caught and shipped at under an inch.

It's amazing and sad(for the fish's sake)that it has not been made to breed thus far.To me,the creation of these hybrid fish, different types of catfish, glowing fish, see through fish,is all meaningless if datnoid breeding can't be accomplished.

Hey just curious. Since the ITs come in such large groups as juvies, any idea how they are caught in such large numbers?

the locals will find a section of the river the fish use for breeding, juvi's tend to stick together in large numbers for safety probably in reed beds etc, they will be netted in large quantities.
i've mentioned this in quite a few of my previous posts, the juvi's once caught as already advised by CC may be stored together in fish farms to add a little size then shipped around the world again in large numbers.

thanks for the info CC
