Captive PBB Photos and Observations

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like it does have the star pattern on it operculum. Do you think the black paint is making it lose contrast?

I have mine are garnet, the green is darker today after it started eating carnivore pellets, and the contrast is really good.

Probably. He's gotten darker. The lightest koliba also got darker.

No good update today, stressed it out during a water change, canister filter cleaning and I kept bumping the tank, and trying out a powerhead unsuccessfully.

It lost some of its nice contrast but should be back on track tomorrow. It's eating pellets now and getting thick!

the nostrils are adorable. Do you think it will keep the black spots as it ages? Are those typical for PBBs?

Loving this thread. So many PBBs!

What pellets?

Hikari carnivore. I will be adding diversity to the diet soon.

I don't recall seeing black spots like that on my wc PBBs I used to have.

My guess is they won't be noticeable as it grows and the color darkens.

Wow those look killer!!! Not to derail but is there any way to identify cb laps for what locality they originated from or is it totally random? Mine looks identical to the cb kolibas that were posted earlier. Any idea of growth rate for these pbb too? If it could chill in the 125 for a few years before going to a 300 or so I might need to snag one...

They should be the same growth rate as any LJ.

Hmmm now I have a dilemma... do I pick up the 8" FLG at my LFS, order my Odoe or hop on the PBB train. All would work for my prehistoric monster jungle I'm working towards having in a few years.
