In the market for a few car. I'm looking for something that specifically has awd as I get snow. Not NY or Colorado snow but enough to create a burden in the winter. I'm also looking for something like a larger hatchback or crossover. My budget is around 10 maybe 11k. 20+ mpg city, and I'd like to stay newer than 2005, anyone have any good advice or ideas? I was looking at the Subaru impress 2-5i, maybe a Nissan rogue. I also ran across an Audi a3 which is a separate question in and of itself seeing as how I've heard horror stories about Audi repair bills, can anyone shed any light on that for me as we'll?

Subaru is perfect for your situation. I am in the same boat as you, and I got a Volvo V-50 T5 AWD. I get 30 mpg. I did not get a Subaru because everybody and their sister has one, and I wanted something different.
Audi are great, but as you said, very expensive (Volvo, too.) I got the Volvo because of it's ... reputation as a Volvo, and because I wanted something unique, as well as AWD, and good on gas. It's a fun little car.
They were first introduced in 2005, so finding one for $10K will be rough, unless if it has had a bad history.
For you - I would say Subaru. Can't go wrong.

I second subaru I think its the foresster all my family lives up state michigan and they swear by these cars.

thats a little more than 10k :p. How bout a honda crv? great little suv a little 2.4L v4 excellent fuel efficiency.

Your right there. My dad has one and he loves his. My only issue with Subaru is that it has awd all the time vs part time awd. But at the same time I know little to zilch about cars.

I'd say a Lamborghini would work.:D

I love my Explorer Sport (2dr). Ok MPG for an SUV, enough room to haul my family and their stuff, small enough to not feel like I'm driving a tank down the road. Low maint costs and low price to buy a used one in good shape.

Any of the "popular" main stream AWD cars are going to be hard to find that aren't beat on. The whole fast/furious craze ruined many a fine car. I'd suggest looking for one that hasn't been modified / raced.
