I am looking at a Saturn Ion Redline. 2.0 DOHC Supercharged, 205 HP, top speed 144. Has 43000 miles which is exactly average for a 2004. I have them worked down to $12,000. NADA Blue Book is $15k and change, Kelley is at 17,000 and change with the features on it. Do you think I have them at the bottom? I can get one for $15K with 12,000 miles on it. Let me have it.

12k is pretty good, to know whether they're at their bottom or not is to know how long they've had it. Usually any used car a place has had for close to 30 days or more they desperately try to move..

As far as which one to buy, IMO depends on how much driving you do. You don't want to get done paying off the car and it be worth nothing. At the same time if you drive only a couple thousand miles a year one with 48k will last for a long time and shouldn't have that bad of mileage in a couple years.

I am not too concerned with how much the car will be worth when I sell it because I generally drive a car for 6 or 7 years. I bought my Grand Am with 25,000 miles on it and right now it has 125,000 and burns a quart a month. I drive them into to the dirt. I save money by not making payments for a few years. I think they listed this car in July or August.

No damn Subaru. Brought this home tonight, have to make a decision by tomorrow.

How is it?

If they've had it since when you think they've had it then you are getting a good deal as they want to move it. Only way to know if they'll go lower is to know what they paid for it. Anyways if you like it go for it.

Performance is every bit as advertised, rediculous acceleration, major power from 60-80 passing situations. I like the Z rated tires, although it really takes getting used to because the stearing is touchy.

It's FWD. FWD cars are appliances. A blown FWD car is still an appliance, albeit a less practical one. You still have a 60/40 F/R weight distribution and torque steer, things that are inherent in FWD cars, especially those w/ transverse engines. The WRX advice was actually sound advice, IMO. If you're going to buy a FWD car, buy something reliable and practical. Don't half-ass your way into a performance car. The Ion is a joke and was almost universally derided by car mags. The Ion Redline is only slightly less of a joke. If you must go domestic FWD "performance" and deal w/ crappy domestic fit and finish, the SRT-4 is a better choice, IMO.

I hated my saturn with a passion.Had to be one of the worst cars i owned but kia tops that list.

Look into the history & reliability of the supercharger & its manufacturer. That is a pricey piece of equipment to replace. Performance cars are not bought to pussyfoot around. You are going to beat on it just as bad as the last guy (I hope anyway). Put youself in his shoes...He beat on it knowing he was going to sell it in two years. :( The bad thing about being the next owner is you get to pay the repair bills. I don't want to say don't get it, just know when it is time to trade it in or retire it to the weekends in favor of a different daily driver. Btw, post some pics if you decide to buy it.
