Car people!!!! Need a lil help....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I only applied the soap to check the belt and not just to rid the noise. I'm not a mechanic but I'm pretty sure this is just a belt problem. I've put 8k miles on the car since buying it 3 years ago. I think its from lack of driving it. Car has 46k miles on it and isn't driven hard.

I understand that's what your doing. But as I'm explaining its not accurate on serpentine belts to do so. I'd be willing to bet you could pick a stock replacement tensioner and belt for $60 to $80 bucks and have your bases covered. Your gonna have to remove the belt to do the tensioner. Save yourself some work and do both. Just a suggestion so you don't have to keep back and forth to the parts store and have to keep taking a belt on and off. Choice is always yours. Just lending my 28 years in auto repair experience.

I've priced eveything and it would be around $70 for both. I'm gonna take it all apart Monday and examine the tensioner before getting parts

Hello; I had a noisy belt original equipment serpentine belt on a ford pickup. I replaced it with a new belt and stuck the used belt in the vehicle as an emergency back up. This worked well and I never had to replace the belt again for the many years I kept the truck.
I also do this with radiator hoses. I replace the heater and radiator hoses after a few years and well before any likely hood of failure. The old hoses are then carried as a just in case of failure one the road.

Took the day off from work to get this figured out and the wife needs the other car

Car is fixed, no more noise. Tensioner was fine aswell as all other pulleys. Original belt was the cause so I can now get the car ready for the summer.
