Anyone know of any alternatives to activated carbon i could put in my filters that have similar benefits. I use aquaclear power filters that have sponges and floss with pockets for carbon.

is that the brand name or what the stuff is called? and can i buy that at any pet store?

I want some kind of chemical or biological filtration

Howdy,

Chemical filtration: What exactly do you want to achieve?

Biological filtration: This is not a property of carbon. If you'd like biofiltration, you need "true" biomedia. A sponge is not real bad, but something with more surface area would be better.

I use Chemi-pure, and also Bio-Chem (Aquarium Pharm.) Both are good, and you can get them at your local pet store/fish store. As for Biological filtration, the sponges you have in your filter offer a little bit of biological filtration, but not much. If you are looking for better filtration, I would go and get a canister filter, there are many options for all kinds of filtration you can put in them!!!

i just got some matrix by seachem ill let you know if its good im not sure because i never used it.....
