basically im curious if anyone or everyone is running carbon on larger systems, my filtration on my 1500 gallons system consists of sump with mesh filtration and a large skimmer and live rock, and a large aquaripure filter, and ozone, my water looks great as for clarity, and my water parameters all seem good, however i sometimes get a foul smell from my tank and it basically fills my house lol, so I was wondering if I should be running carbon of some sort or if it is just overkill and maybe I should do more water changes. the stock is 1- 2 ft bamboo, 2- 10 inch bamboos, 1- coral cat, zebra eell, 1 cali ray, and 3 rabbit fish.

I have a bag a 10 lb bag of carbon sitting in the sump. Change it out once every 3 months. Not sure if it doesn't anything for clarity, but definitely keeps that smell down.

thanks jabba, I think Im gonna give it a try, so do you pretty much just have it in a mesh bag sitting in there? also where did you buy it?

I'm a firm believer in using carbon, I am using it in my 560 Peacock Bass set up. Some would say dont use it, it is not necessary if you have a properly cycled biological, but those people are cheapo's and dont want to spend the extra money on expensive carbon. But to each their own, just whatever it takes to keep them fishes alive i guess

Yeah, I just have a bag sitting in there. I buy activated carbon through McMaster

I had a odor in my house as well. I built a gtt system, decreased the bio load, sealed openings in the tank and stand and increased filtration nothing helped. I had slacked off of vacumming sand since I put the gtt system. I resumed light vaccumming 1 x week and added good amount of carbon and the smell is completely gone!!!!!!
