Ok, So i am a Carbon user! I have been since my first 1gal tank when I was 10 years old. My question: how much rinsing do I need to do? I always wondered becuase I spend so much time trying to "rinse it clean;" the water never seems to get clear. It goes from black to grey and that's it! Is there such a thing as "over rinsing" which would descrease the life of the carbon in the tank?

hmm it should eventually wash clear unless maybe you have really cheap crappy carbon? when I used carbon (used dont anymore) I put it in the filter bag and ran water over it for about 30 seconds while shaking it around a bit

i barely rinse mine if i use it. i have a big bag in my sump right now but i havent changed it in like 2 months. so im sure its not doin much

It's probably not doing a damn thing. It's better to use smaller batches of carbon and change them frequently.

I'm using the regular hobby stuff in the paper milk carton. I can't think of the name now. But I have also used the black diamond..and same thing, never rinsed clear. I don't even try to get it clear anymore...I was just curious if it was just me!

Get out off the dark ages, Purigen is the new way lol.

X3!!! You are not ten anymore!!! No matter if you wish that were the case (my life is sucky sometimes, and, sometimes I wish that WERE the case), whatever year that happened to be is gone and gone for good!!! This is 2010. Carbon is "yesterday". Today, it is called "Purigen"!!!
