Carbon has it's benfits. But one of it's downfalls is that it cannot be rinsed and reused with any real benefit. It needs to be replaced. You can clean and recharge it but the process is grueling and will end up costing you more than replacing it.
Purigen is a good bit more expensive than Carbon but one of it's huge benefits is it can be recharged. But if you fail to recharge it properly then it's not worth it's weight in carbon. So if you decide to use it be sure to read up and use it properly.
Also note that Purigen will remove a much wider range of pollutants than carbon...
