What is the big deal with carbon and Oscars? I run carbon in my 120g with no problems yet...2 Oscars only, no other fish load.

its ment to contribute to hith.......i had it and someone reccomended removing it so i did.....prevention better than cure.....

I've never seen any solid evidence that it does contribute, but I don't use it because I don't need it:)

Theres a good article in the Apr 03 edition of Aquarium Fish mag. It says there is no evidence that carbon leads to HITH.

Yeah I was wondering about this. I read in a thread down this forum that carbon contributes to HITH and I was like...huh? I've never heard that before. Not calling anyone a liar but does anyone have any research on this they could link us to or at least an explaination of WHY carbon would cause HITH?

Of course as a few have pointed out...you don't NEED carbon. So mabye we should all pull it out pre-emptively anyway!

I think it is just those who don't do enough water changes and rely on carbon to clean the water and their oscars get HITH and blame it on the carbon when they take it out and do more water changes.

I would have to say thats false have 3 Oscars i run carbon and one got it slightly but the other 2 don't have it.
