Hello guys, I received my little guys from Rapps last night. I though they would be bigger but I was wrong. They have to be under an inch maybe pushing a inch in size. I have two at the moment by themselves in a 55 gallon.

They are very active and doing quite well at the moment. My question is, at this size I am feed them crushed up flake food from Omega one. I was told by Rapps to feed them Spirilina flakes in the same fashion. However, my lfs doesn't have any in stock.

Is there any thing else I can feed them? Could I use spinach leaves or other leaf like vegetables?

Also, does doing daily water changes help with growth rate at this size? or will i be hurting them because I am speeding up their growth cycle?

This is the first time I have cichlids this small so I am freaking out!!!!

Thanks in advance,

Don't worry, your fish will be fine. As far as vegetables go, try zucchini or squash. Most fish will eat it. Daily water changes are great for fish.

ive used the smallest pellets that NLS makes and it grows fish really well. its more like powder, little tiny granules. but they seemd to love it. ive grown quite a few fish from that size on that stuff

How would I go about doing so? Do i just cut some pieces and through it in? or try to attach it to a suction cup kinda thing?

The little guys seem to be sticking together! it is quite a sight. Where one goes the other follows ;).

As far as daily water changes go, do you guys recommend a certain percent that I should be doing?

Thanks,

What size tank are they in?

Daily water changes are far from necessary, unless they're in a really small tank and you're way overfeeding. Small water changes (10-20%) a couple of times per week is PLENTY.

Small size NLS or Xtreme or a quality flake should be a good food for them. Just feed sparingly.

Matt

Their in a 55 gallon tank all by themselves.

Would you consider Omega One quality Flake food?

10% water changes every other day, and I feel Omega One is fine at this stage. Seems like everyone pushes Nos and it is good stuff, but there are other quality brands as well.

I grew my breidorhi babies on spirulina flakes, earthworm flakes and crushed up hikari bio gold pellets, blood worms, mysis shrimp.
If you need spirulina or earthworm flakes i will be glad to send you some(free of charge)pm me your address,i have plenty i get it by the kilo(2.2 poundss) at a time.
