Well I have been going to a community college for the past 3-4 years off and on to get the basic classes done with. I thought this was the route I wanted to take, but I don't think it is anymore. I'm not good at school at all,was always a C average student. If I got an "A" that baby was hung on the fridge, doesn't matter if I was 8 or 18 years old...that is rare for me. Lol. I basically barely got C's in college and it just seems like I won't ever finish and literally have nothing to show for it besides the debt of course. College just isn't for me. I hated highschool a couple of years ago and college isn't much better. So I'm done with that.

Now I may have sucked at the whole doing homework and writing 10 page essays and all of that crap, but I have always been good at my jobs I have had since highschool. I have a very good work ethic. Never late for the most part, listen to directions well, I actually care about the job I do, always safe. I have been working in warehouses the past 4 years and am good at my job. I keep getting trained on new equipment because they can trust me. The equipment I am already trained on, I know the in and outs of it just like driving my car to work everyday. They ask me to do special projects occasionally. I've been promoted in previous jobs. So I know I have a good work ethic and do the right thing and it shows by how they respect me.

With that being said, warehouse work at 12.40 an hour isn't something you can realistically own a house with and provide for a family. I don't have kids yet or engaged, but it's going to happen. Perhaps sooner than later I hope if all goes as planned!

That's where it comes down to what should I do? I understand I'm not going to just get a job paying $20 an hour without some sort of training. So I've been looking into apprenticeships for electricians and other labor type jobs. Been looking into getting one of those cdl licenses. Anything really. I'm not good with upselling to customers and such so a retail or office type job doesn't sound good at all.

Anyone went or know anyone who became certified at a job or such without going to college. Apprenticeships? Just looking for some ideas.

My best advice is to finish your degree or enroll in an apprentice program to learn a trade. Although you can work your way up the ladder, it is much easier when you have some proven skill or ability behind you.

A lot of jobs require a trade school like plumbing and being an electrician. Its all based on what you get into and what your interests are.

Yeah I would love to do an apprenticeship. Just need to figure out what to do. I'd rather not be a plumber. Would be cool to learn it, but not as an actual job for years to come, but I'm open to anything if something came up.

you sound like your on the right track...an app. is probably your best bet...take your time and consider all options

What classes do you have done? You should have an associate's degree by now...Maybe you should put more focus into finishing your education since you're probably almost there.

You sound just like I was. Here is my advice, finish school! You will always have a degree you can fall back on. Don't know what the economy has done to some of the other trade schools apprentice programs around the country but here in Chicago our union cabinet maker program just got going again. I don't even want to know what the wait list looks like to get in. Whatever path you choose I wish you the best of luck.

Yeah if you have been in school that long you should at least have or be really close to an AA by now, get and audit and find out. If you don't want to move onto a higher degree, at the very least get that AA, most places look for that over a HS diploma now days, you go this far you might as well finish, C's or not.

Once you have that done look for a trade school that intrests you and try it out. An apprenticeship sounds like it would be a great idea if you can get one. Sometimes a good way to learn things is by volunteering your time one day a week to learn something and pick up an extra skill (at least thats what a lot of people down here do to get skill so they can find jobs, I did this as well).

The thing is it was 3-4 years of part time school. I took maybe 4 credits instead of the normal 12 and then I would start working more hours or something and stop for a semester. Then I would fail a class or get a "D" which doesn't even count as passing depending on the class. It's pathetic. I doubt I am near anything. I'm just not good at school. I'm good at doing hard labor, that's why I'm looking for a new career path.

I've always wanted to learn other things. That's a good idea.
