As of now I've been attending college as a biology major hoping to transfer into a pre-Med school come September. And to be completely honest it's not really what I inspire to do for the rest of my life. As probably everyone on this forum we all have keeping fish as a hobby to us but how many actually have made a successful career out of it? I've looked into many Marine/aquatic biology programs and a lot of people say there are many jobs in this field. Is it someone that is truly worth taking up as a career or is it just a passion that should be kept as a hobby? I love the ocean, fish, an everything about it in general and would love to pursue it further as a career as my own. Anyone have any interesting experiences of their own that can maybe give me a little more information. Thank you:)

Marine biology seems awesome, but I would think a bit depressing these days because the ocean is pretty screwed. Still, I wonder if I should have went for a degree in that. What else... icthyology? aquaculture? aquascaping and aquarium design/technology? I have wondered about pretty much the same thing as you, but it's a moot point in my case since I have no intention of going back to school any time soon.

I'd love to be that person who fixes the ocean! Aha but yeah I love everything to do with marine bio. It's a bit of biology astronomy physics chemistry all together. I don't wanna look back years down the road and wish I did it but also don't wanna look back and regret doing it!

The problem with this field is that people are willing to volunteer their time to work with animals, so finding a well paid job is hard.

I myself this past year have decided to pursue a degree in some type of conversation degree, whether it be marine or freshwater biology, forestry, wildlife managment, etc. not quite sure but i am right now saying marine biology. who cares about money, when you do what you love, everything will fall into place. instead of working half ass in a career that pays you more, you'll be working for something you love and your passion will make all the difference. STOP WORRYING ABOUT MONEY.

I hate to NOT worry about money but unfortunately.... It's all about money now a days lol. Nothing will fall in place working minimum wage supporting a family and AN ADDICTING HOBBY LIKE FISHKEEPING. So needing a good job is by far a main priority.

As an adult seeking a career, you need to worry about the money. Food, housing, car etc... all cost money, and you need them. Loving the job isn't enough when you get kicked out and have bill collectors pounding down your door.
