poor boat :(.. I mean whale... yes... whale

unfortunately whale collisions are not at all uncommon, they cost the shipping industry billionsd each year... and nearly all the whales die, its quite common for a whale to get stuck on the front of a big ship, over the bulbous bow and then all the crew can do s press on to port and remove it once docked... pushing the extra unstreamlined shape of a whale acts as a huge break on the ship, making it late to port on costing the company somewhere in the millions of dollars each time it happens....

my step dad was chief engineer on container ships for years.. hence my insight. A container ship average speed is around 19-23knts i beleave? but i don't know about a whale....

Woudln't it make more sense to stop, dislodge the whale, then keep on going?

Dispite the fact that that ship makes a 40ft whale look like a sardine, it not exactly easy to move a 75,000 pound animal in the middle of the ocean.

they end up having to use a tug to pull the whales off back in port... its simply not possible to do it at sea with out serious call out fees and even greater loss of time.... port fees are ridiculous, minutes, is serious money, hours or more likely days caused by a hooked up whale is goin to get astronomically expensive, with out calling out a support boat to meet you, then going full stop mid ocean ext.... oh and lots of dead whales hook up to, its not always live ones...
