Carib Sea Super Naturals

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just was in Petsmart and saw the Caribsea supernatural moonlight white sand and it is definitely SUPER fine - like powder. I also saw one that I'm currently considering - Sunset Gold. It looked looked like a fairly fine sand and had a natural tan/yellow tone to it. The other two I'm considering are Torpedo Beach and Crystal River, both also from the super natural line. Right now I'm leaning toward Torpedo, but that's partially because I can't seem to find Crystal River anywhere nor can I find a video of it so I don't know what it will look like!

Have you looked into pool filter sand? It is much cheaper than any of the "pet store" sands. The stuff I have in my tank is a little lighter in color than the Torpedo Beach, but was only $11 per 50 pound bag. Picture of my old retric on pool filter sand:

Awesome tank. I love the look of your sand but I have two concerns with pool filter sand: Can I get silica free pfsand? And I'm worried it will stick to and blanket my ray 24/7. It being abrasive is my main concern.

I use CaribSea "Instant Aquarium" - color "Sunset Gold" - It is specifically made for soft belly fish such as stingrays. I purchase it from Drs.Fosters and Smith with 8.99 flat rate shipping. I have used this in a 300 gal. 650 pond, and soon to be in a 900 gallon. No issues at all.

Good luck.

Here are some photos from one of my tanks with the Sunset Gold. I like it a lot and have two tanks (210 and 75) with it.

I also have a 135 with the Torpedo Beach (mixed with larger gravel/pebbles). It is nice because you can vacuum it and it looks nice, but it is nowhere near as soft as the Sunset Beach.

I buy all my sand from Pet Solutions because of the free shipping, I bought 240 pounds when they had it on sale for $17.99/bag and wish I would have bought more...
