My fiance just got done talking with one of our good friends that owns a hot tub and pool store and we can get 50 lbs of this white pool filter sand for about $7 a bag. He said that he has to tear down a pool with about 8,000 lbs of pool filter sand, but the only problem with that is that it has been exposed to chlorine and that would kill my fish. I cant wait to switch from gravel to sand here in the next couple of weeks.

$7 per bag is really high if that is suppose to be a favor. I pay about $3 wholesale. Also don't rule out the free sand. Tap water has chlorine in it, right? Why is used sand different?
Your biggest chore will be to wash it several times to get silt and debris out of it. After that, put it in your tanks, fill, and then add dechlor.

Probably wouldn't hurt to let it sit in the tank with water so the chlorine can "soak out".

I thought all the clorine in the pool filter system would be really harmful to my fish, I really dont want anything to happen to them. If I pass up on the free sand, i would have to pay $7 a bag, which isn't too bad, alot cheaper than gravel. As long as I rinse the sand that came out of the pool filter, it should be ok????
