anyone here own Carnivorous plants. there my second hobby and would like to here all about them.

I had a venus fly trap before and some other flowering thing. I tried to get into them but couldn't keep them alive so I have stayed away from them. Pretty cool plants just kind of touchy, and the flower didn't smell like a flower should.

I have kept sundews and pither plants, I was in Louisiana at the time and the marsh near by had several types, they do best in sandy, acid soils.

I used to have Venus fly traps when I was a kid, but they always died. What does the pitcher plant look like? I grew up in Northern California and when I was in fifth grade I went to a enviromental camp they have up there. On one of the hikes the gide pointed out a really cool carnivorus plant native to the area. It was shaped kind of like a bell or a pitcher. We put a couple ants in it and it closed up. I thought it was much cooler than the Venus Fly Trap! I would like to see it again.

Same as the most of you, I had venus fly traps, pitcher plants, and anohter one that was like long blades of grass with all little sticky prickers on them. They all died out after about 3 months. They were pretty cool, watching the fly trap close on a fly was neat. Mine came alltogether in a little bio box thing.

Pitcher plants and sundews grow worldwide but most are marsh plants that are drab or small so you don't notice them, almost all require a temperature drop at night, good lighting but not direct sun. Very wet soil that is low in fertility and fairly acidic is also needed, sphagnum moss and sand mixed work well. They need a high level of humidity as well. Most benefit from the occasional bug meal.
Here are a couple pictures from a site that specializes in them, http://www.pitcherplant.com
also some sundews from the same place, they are great but tiny, I used to keep them in brandy snifters.
