Carnivorous plants

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've had fly traps before.Home Depot used to carry them in the spring but I haven't seen any there this year....I'd like to get a pitcher plant.

I tried a few. they had excruciating deaths.
I'm pretty sure they do need high humidity., and something called a Green Thumb. even during my best green years they croaked. First, their little traps always turned brown after 'eating' :-/

well Like i have said..the fly traps are native to the US and do best out side...and each leaf only lives a few weeks..they turn black and die ( you can snip the head off and the leaf its self will continue to photosynthesize) and new ones grow to replace..there is only so many times the traps can be triggered before plant cells break down.

Yup, i have a little carnivorous plant farm as well... got 3 VFT's and a few other plants...

its outside floating in peat moss in a dafnia tank so no watering required

Everything I've been reading says water from a tank is no good. RO or rainwater only, as long as it
s not treated and doesn't have a high mineral or nitrogen/phosporus count.

They are native to North Carolina so they do best out side..in peat moss always always keep it soaking wet.
Was told to keep it moist but not soaking wet. Interesting.

Found mine at Lowes, pitcher plants too.

Have a vft in bad shape (didn't know about dormancy until last week) and a butterwort. He butterwort is amazing for fruit flies and gnats.
