I was fishing in my apartment complex lake/pond, and I saw grass carp hitting the surface alot. I had a bobber with a splitshot and half a nightcrawler. I threw it out there, and my bobber went down, but due to overexcitement I didnt starighten out my line before hookset, and lost it. Im planning on doing the same tomorrow morning except I have dog food, hotdogs, and nightcrawlers. I know I gotta big bite today, but not sure what b/c I didnt hook it :( My question is does this set up work for carp?
Thanks.

most likely not a carp...carp will rarely bite night crawlers. Try the bobber first with just a peice of bread on the hook, and then if that doesnt work, take the bobber off and just let the peice of bread float. Also look up other easy carp baits and try variety.

Yea I was thinking lmb or a cat to be honest. Should I keep the splitshot on the line? Im planning on using the same setup except Ill have hotdogs, bread, and dogfood. Ill also have another rod setup for just lmb and cats with the nightcrawlers.

Yea to be honest I was thinking a catfish or lmb. I will be using the same setup with hotdogs, bread, and dogfood. Should I keep the splitshot on?

Update today I saw two huge 2-3 feet carp near the shore. I threw in bread, and they ate. So I took off my bobber and splitshot, and just went with hook and line. Well I caught an 8 inch carp, but it once I landed it. It was flopping around so much it broke the line and flopped back into the water. The two huge carp would only eat the bread around the piece that was hooked. They approached the baited hook several times, but would just swim away. How do I catch these guys?

maybe have the hook more covered by the bread, or a smaller hook?

I actually believe the problem was that the bread wouldn't float. That could also be a problem. Do you know of any carp rigs I could buy or make?

idk about rigs or anything, but just keep going at it and mixing it up. A lot of times it will be trial and error to try and get the big boys

Catfish or a big LMB!!

For carp get corn on the bottom and ive seen some big LMB caught on hotdogs but its not my thing. Good luck!
