The only way to know if a Hericthys carpintis is infact an Escondido is to know the parentage. Otherwise its all just speculation. Typical defining characteristics of the Escondido are a beautiful green coloration, large pearls, and the most noted is worm-like markings around the mouth and in front of the eyes.

Of course this will never stop stores from saying they have escondidos...

Here are some pics of AquaMojos Escondido for compairson.

Mojo's escondido has marking all the way to the mouth. I just looked at my carpintis and it stopped by the eye. I suck at taking pics but the color of my carpintis is way brighter and more green in person.

I don't mean to say that yours is not an esco, just wanted to clarify the difference between a regular carpintis, and a true escondido. IMO, many stores jack up the price of a regular carpintis and 'tag' their fish as an escondido, even though it might not be.

No problem man, I totally agree with what you're saying.

I'm convinced it's a Carpintis. I spoke to the person who gave the fish to me and he agreed that it is a Carpinitis. Parents are wild caught and was assumed as an escondido when 1st brought back in CA.
