I gave up on heaters, my fish always break them. I think it's the wolves mainly. After buying more than I can count with my hands it became clear to me I was waist of money. They've all done fine in my tanks year round at room temperature. Never checked the temp of their tanks but I have wondered.

Why wouldn't you just use a pvc pipe or heater guard and protect the heater? Seems daft not to have one or check the temp, they could be just surviving or a cold snap could finish them off. If not then run an inline heater on an external filter or thermostat filter or heater in a sump.

I thought of that but then I thought the pvc pipe would melt from the heater. Also now the tank is out of my room so I have to argue with my sister over things that are an eye sore. And well I've had them like this for atleast 2 years at this point no issues. And don't think they're just surviving. They eat very greedily as they did when heated. I have been looking into getting some type of heater, was thinking of adding the eheim with the built in heater but feel like I've read it fails a lot. Think my best bet is adding one to my filter. Haven't looked into it to much. Only question I really have is does it require maintenance if so what kind and do I have to get more tubing and cut the one I have or does it connect directly to the outlet of my filter?

Oh, btw, my vultures are continuing to eat and bulk up. They are around 10-11" now and pretty much swim nonstop, unless I turn the lights on. I just got a bag of massivore yesterday and they are going to get it for the first time tonight. I usually only feed them once every three days or so, so they aren't growing rapidly at this point, but definitely still growing.

Cats are looking great. I missed quite a few posts for some reason. I saw you have some sort of shovelnose, what type is it?

Porthole shovel nose. Cool little guy
