Cat saves boy from being mauled by dog

This same cat now 16, still hangs out on our porch or front yard. A couple of months ago I saw her totally disregard 2 leashed dogs and try to approach the owners. I thought, "crazy cat!" Well yesterday her luck ran out or her stupidity caught up with her and a dog got ahold of her. $600 and a broken leg later, I guess shes doing ok
Could her mind be going due to her age? Anyone know what the legal aspects are? I mean our cat wasn't leashed ,but I think the dog came onto our property
 
If the dog came onto your property the fault is with the dogs owners, I don't think anyone expects you to leash your cat haha
