Cat to go with oscars?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Is there a common name to these cats? How big do they get? Could I find one in my lfs, or would I have to order it? What do they look like? Pics?
AFAIK, the common name for most of them is "hoplo cat". One of my Hoplosternum littorale can be seen just below my lima in this pic:

Better view (this one is the male, and there's a female Megalechis thoracata behind him):

A couple pics of a Callichthys calllichthys:

And this is Megalechis thoracata, a male specimen:

A pair of M. thoracata, male below:

About the sizes, Callichthys callichthys and Megalechis thoracata are said to be around 8 inches and Hoplosternum littorale is a lot bigger... I've personally seen a 16 inch long specimen. :WHOA:

Best regards.

Daniel.

my oscar made life living hell for my synodontis and i had to move it to another tank. it lost weight and nearly it life...

i would personally choose a plec of some sort as they are tough and can fight back. one of my oscars died from the injuries it sustained fighting with a 20" sailfin pleco..

pictus can work quite well and they are very active and get to around 6".

it really depends on your oscars personality if its a tank killer then any newcomer is going to get beaten..

i dont mean to state the obvious but nothing too small or it will be dinner!

Got a Synodontis eupterus and hoping it works out good, it's only about 3-4", so I'm growing it out in my 55 gal for now, until it's about 7" or so, then will be moved with the oscars :D

well if you really wanna go monster i would go with a tsn or a rtc if you have the room..but if that is out of the question wat about something smaller like maybe a marble sailfin or one of the pimedolleda species dont know if that is the correct spelling sorry.

I had my oscar with 2 Normal plecos one was much bigger than the oscar and the outher was like 1" oscar dosent mess with plecos imo
